Goodbye to the three musketeers

Written by Monkeys United at 12:52 22/4-2011

Wob Witting, Andy van Hintum and Eddy Deiman have left Monkeys United. Witting and Deiman were part of the team since the team was founded while van Hintum was one of the first big signings.

The first one to go was Andy van Hintum. He has been the cobble captain of the team for a long period but with the new youngster Maas de Wolf developing so quickly, he was afraid of losing his captain role. "He decided to leave the team while he was still a hero, hoping that people will remember him that way", said his 3 days younger twin brother Nico van Hintum (poor mom).

Not much later, Eddy Deiman left the team. Eddy has been one of the lead-outs of the team for a long time but the years started counting and it took him more and more time to recover from earlier races. He didn't want to give up racing yet but in the top division, the pace was just too high for him. The board let him go to a lower division team as a reward for his contribution to the team over the years.

Wob Witting on the other hand moved up instead of down. Team Tirilla mentioned his great performance in Giro di Firenze were he got second and immediately came with a offer for him that was 'too good to refuse'. Witting however was in a doubt since he didn't want to leave the team where he grew up, where he was given a chance in modern cycling and where everybode kept faith in him even when he had a period of no results. An immence pay-cheque in his new team probably made him decide to move to denmark.

The three riders were the three riders who brought Monkeys United from the lower divisions to the top which created a great band for them. As they were always together, their teammates called them the three musketeers. Now their paths seperate, but they will probably come to visit the team quite often. And hopefully, they can start their career as a trainer at the same club as where they started their cycling career. We wish there riders all the best!
